How to Write a Compelling Assistant Property Manager Resume
When working on your resume, it’s important to get your structure right.
The above sample opens with a resume summary and featured skills section, followed by work experience and education. That’s a standard layout.
If you are a bit short on space, you can consider a two-column resume layout and move your summary and skills into the sidebar area. (We have plenty of professional resume templates in such design).
Once you’ve figured out your layout, start filing in the gaps!
Stick to Relevant Information
Many people transition to property management from another industry.
If that’s your case, you don’t have to include every single bit of information about your work history. If it isn’t relevant to the job you are pursuing, consider leaving it off to save space.
For example, if you have an extensive work history, eliminate the part-time jobs you held in high school. Also, you can leave sections out completely if they aren’t relevant. This includes the “references” section which is considered to be unnecessary for most professions, including property management.
The Most Important Info Goes on Top
The topmost information in every section of your resume is the one most hiring managers will retain. So structure your information accordingly.
If you are organizing your skill section, add the most marketable skills to the very top. This will grab attention, and stick with the reader. The same with work experience – list your entries chronologically. Then, put your core competency as the first bullet point.
Look for Keywords in The Job Listing
Hiring managers (and applicant tracking software) will scan your resume for relevant keywords. If they don’t find these, chances are they will simply discard your resume. To find the best keywords, take a closer look at the job listing – and pay attention to the candidate requirements/duties section. Pick out the phrases, used by HR, and plop them into your document.
Formatting Counts
Formatting is what makes your resume attractive and readable. Start by choosing a resume font that is professional-looking and easy on the eyes. Next organize your resume with headings, subheadings, and bulleted lists. Hiring managers always appreciate a well-structured resume with plenty of white space.
Proofread Carefully
Spelling and grammar errors are a real turn-off. They come off as unprofessional, and sloppy. Even a few mistakes can leave a bad impression. Take an extra 20 minutes or so and review your resume carefully to be sure you catch every error.
Look up Resume Examples
Still, feeling stuck? Take the time to look up other relevant resume examples in your industry. By reviewing as many examples as possible you will be able to pick out even more formatting tips and tricks for organizing your career details!
Final Tip: Send Personalized Resume Copies
Don’t be tempted to create a single resume that you will send to every potential employer. While this may save time, you will reduce your chances of being called back for an interview. Take the time to write an entirely personalized copy of each resume that addresses the needs of each company and is relevant for each job you are pursuing!
