General Purpose
This business relationship director establishes and maintains a relationship between IT and the business to increase the value realized from technology assets, investments, and IT capabilities. This role will be responsible for understanding the business and its operations, participating in the development of the business strategy and roadmap, facilitating the creation of technology project business cases, contributing to the prioritization of IT projects, ensuring projects align with the technology roadmap, educating IT about the business, and ensuring the IT strategy supports the overall business strategy. The role is a liaison between IT and the business affiliate, a trusted advisor to the business affiliates and functional areas, the face of IT to the business and the face of the business to IT.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted partner and principal technology advisor to energy affiliates and groups, driving IT transformation and innovation.
- Educate IT about the business to improve the quality and timeliness of IT products and services.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of the corporate strategy and roadmap.
- Develop a deep understanding of business functions and strategic priorities.
- Ensure ongoing communication with energy affiliates, functional areas, and IT leaders on enterprise initiatives, priorities, and issues.
- Deliver high levels of customer service and responsiveness to key stakeholders on business projects.
- Engage with stakeholders to set expectations for standard KPIs.
- Prioritize IT work in alignment with business needs and communicate the impacts of priority changes.
- Work with central IT functions to allocate resources for IT projects and resolve resource contention.
- Contribute to the identification and implementation of business operation improvements and IT solutions.
- Assist in technology budgeting and planning activities and communicate technology costs and allocations to the business.
- Maintain awareness of current and proposed technology issues and recommend potential solutions.
- Facilitate the creation and presentation of technology project business cases.
- Participate in project prioritization, vendor evaluation, selection, and negotiation.
- Serve as primary escalation point for assigned affiliates.
- Advocate for Service Level Agreement (SLA) negotiations to enhance value to affiliates.
- Ensure technology delivery complies with security programs.
- Deepen client relationships to collect voice of the customer feedback.
- Ensure accurate and complete gathering of requirements for major technology initiatives.
- Research and develop strategies to enhance requirements-gathering processes.
- Participate in trials and piloting of new tools, providing support and expertise in testing procedures.
- Define and sustain change control procedures for the applications development process.
- Monitor localized affiliate technology staff to ensure adequate business support.
- Drive application rationalization activities and develop roadmaps aligning with enterprise application strategy.
- Identify and assist with developing efficiencies and optimization practices across business units.
- Develop and maintain technology budgets for assigned affiliates.
- Prepare cost-benefit analyses for projects and assist in prioritizing projects.
- Evaluate and conduct due diligence related to acquisition targets.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, business process improvement, computer science or related field; or equivalent work experience and knowledge (Typically, four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree).
- Seven years diverse information technology and/or energy business experience.
- Five years department, staff and project management experience.
- Demonstrated vendor management and negotiation experience.
- Prior experience in energy field preferred.
- Critical thinker.
- Business strategy development and execution skills.
- Business process improvement.
- Broad knowledge of business applications, operating systems, network systems, Internet, telecommunication systems, and all other relevant technology platforms.
- Broad and demonstrated knowledge of ISO 27001 and/or cybersecurity best practices.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to travel.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
