General Purpose
Manages the day-to-day relay support engineering for Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power that have significant impact on corporate, business unit, or organizational objectives. Establishes and implements business objectives, strategies, and plans. Manages and allocates financial and employee resources. Responsible for selecting, coaching, and developing technical employees and responsible for management of employee salaries. Implements and supports Company programs, policies and objectives. Responsible for adherence to department financial budgets. Responsible for 24/7 technical support for substation and line apparatus, protective relays and communication equipment. Responsible for delivery of corporate and departmental goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and modify policies, practices and procedures to improve the overall operational effectiveness of PacifiCorp’s transmission and distribution system.
- Provide technical support to critical and highly complex operation and control functions within the business.
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to enhance operational safety, reliability and effectiveness.
- Evaluate and update policies, procedures and other documentation to ensure all aspects of electrical operations are in accordance with Company safety procedures and legislative requirements.
- Analyze schemes, prints and projects and prepare field notebooks and outlines for installation and maintenance of relays for technicians.
- Provide technical training as needed for various departments including dispatch, substation operations, and T&D operations.
- Provide 24/7 technical support for normal operation and outage restoration of substation relays, substation and communications equipment.
- Develop maintenance procedures and schedules for substation circuit breakers, transformers, load-tap changers, battery banks, capacitors, reactors and regulators.
- Select, coach, and develop employees.
- Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews.
- Support corporate and departmental goals and objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience in the electrical industry.
- A minimum of seven years’ experience in distribution, substation, system operations or substation engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a functional or direct supervisory role in electrical operations.
- Knowledge of power systems.
- Assessment skills including problem solving and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent reoccurrence.
- Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues which may be critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature.
- Ability to work with all levels and departments in the organization and people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to effectively work as a member of any team.
- Expert knowledge of current and emerging technologies, tools, systems, practices and vendors.
- Understanding of applicable Company goals, policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman’s terms.
- Ability to operate safely and effectively under pressure.
- Ability to lead a team to deliver company objectives.
- Organizational skills and the ability to effectively progress on multiple objectives.

Hiring Range: $ 133,000-$ 156,500
This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
