General Purpose
Manages the day-to-day distribution system planning, reliability, customer interconnection system impact studies, 24/7 outage response and wildfire risk mitigation of a geographic territory that has a significant impact on corporate, business unit, or organizational objectives. Establishes and implements business objectives, strategies, and plans. Manages and allocates financial and employee resources. Responsible for selecting, coaching, and developing employees and responsible for management of employee evaluation and salaries. Creates, implements and supports Company programs and policies related to the distribution system. Responsible for establishment and adherence to department budget.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to support the Company’s distribution operations, including technical studies, distribution grid system planning and troubleshooting capital project proposals, wildfire risk mitigation and 24/7 outage response.
- Provide excellent customer service by overseeing the production of rapid and accurate load and generation interconnection studies, power quality and outage investigations, outage restoration solutions and arc flash/motor start analyses.
- Ensure transmission and distribution operations districts are supported with internal and external technical resources, and manage issues associated with distribution system operations, performance, protection and control and regulatory and environmental compliance.
- Responsible for daily communication of expectations, coaching employees, providing ongoing feedback, and working collaboratively with other departments.
- Facilitate change, develop others, foster continuous improvement and drive for compliance to a developing standards.
- Assess industry practices and regulatory changes that directly impact distribution system operations and create policies and procedures to address requirements and improvements.
- Ensure that the best technical processes and engineering practices are applied across the distribution system by proposing process and practice improvement strategies.
- Oversee process centered transition activities and special projects such as wildfire risk mitigation, electric vehicle adoption, distribution automation, and distributed energy resource integration (.i.e solar, battery).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules, regulations, codes and tariffs.
- Recommend and implement action plans for achieving objectives.
- Select, coach, and develop employees to fulfill distribution engineering objectives of providing safe and reliable power for our customers.
- Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare quarterly reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
- A minimum of seven years experience in engineering.
- A minimum of three years experience in people management.
- Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, execute policy, monitor resources, and manage the development or implementation of a system, program, or process.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate employees.
- Knowledge of Company’s strategic plan, objectives for specific area, as well as Company policies, procedures, and practices.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, Title V, etc) and applicable codes such as ANSI, NEC, NESC and NFPA.
- Knowledge and experience in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical distribution facilities from 34.5 kV medium voltage systems to 277/480 V and 120/240 V customer systems.
- Proficient with the use of personal computers including distribution system modeling applications, spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation applications and enterprise software.
- Knowledge with distribution protection and control and relay settings
Preferences
- Advanced Degree.
- Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills is highly desirable.
- Experience in budget preparation, analysis and cost tracking.
- Experience with process centered organizations, project management, contract administration and work planning and scheduling.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
