General Purpose

 

A Journeyman shall have had at least three years’ experience or equivalent related training, and shall be qualified in one of the following branches of the trade: (a) Line Construction and Maintenance; (b) Station and Substation Construction and Maintenance includes but not limited to: Journeyman Station Wireman and Journeyman Station Meter & Relay Technician; (c) Meter Installation, Testing and Maintenance; (d) Underground Construction and Maintenance; (e) Communications Construction and Maintenance and (f) Estimating.

Responsibilities

 

As a Journeyman Lineman you will install, maintain and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment, both overhead and underground, while utilizing line trucks, aerial boom, lifts and wire pulling equipment.  Maintenance of lines and services will require pole climbing, hot sticking, and  working out of truck mounted bucket lifts to construct, repair or maintain line equipment or string, splice and sag wire on live or dead circuits.

Continuously maintain Real Power Balance, ensuring compliance with all applicable reliability requirements of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Evaluate current and future day Resource Operations Plan and make data driven decisions to adjust the resource plan to accommodate system requirements, ensuring reliable load service. Evaluate market solutions provided by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Energy Imbalance Market (EIM). Execute the plans within the constraints of real-time system conditions. Validate accuracy of load and variable energy resource (VER) forecasts, and efficiently dispatch system generation resources to balance the electric system and deliver the lowest net power cost solution to stakeholders.

This position is responsible for the development, oversight, performance, and documentation of the operational controls in the energy supply management (ESM) group.  ESM is responsible for load service of PacifiCorp’s more than 2 million customers across six states.  This entails the optimization of generation and transmission resources including commercial trading activity and the near-term forecasting of load and renewable resources.  Responsible for developing, defining and maintaining a controls framework for ESM that continuously identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks to serve our customers in the least-cost manner. This position is also responsible for the creation of an audit trail to ensure processes are followed and for use in regulatory procedures.

Requirements

 

  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Journeyman Lineman certification or testing through IBEW Local 659.
  • Completion of a formal training program for a Journeyman Lineman.
  • Must meet examining board review of skills and experience.
  • Candidate must have formal hot stick training and experience.
  • Must own, or be able to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
