General Purpose
This position is responsible for assisting Power Marketer/Originators with the negotiation of power purchase agreements, including qualified facilities to enhance value and reduce risk to customers. Assist and influence the design, development and implementation of strategies and plans for effective commodity contract management, restructuring, and effective dispute resolution with respect to wholesale, qualified facility and retail customers.
Responsibilities of this position include the following:
- Assist in buying and selling of energy wholesale products and services from wholesale qualified entities to enhance value or reduce risk exposure in the WECC May direct transactions within specified risk management established policy limits.
- Assist in restructuring existing contractual obligations.
- Identify opportunities for new transactions.
- Establish and develop relationships with key individuals and entities in the wholesale marketplace.
- Feed market intelligence back into the organization.
- Drive transactions through the internal evaluation and approval process.
- Supply internal consulting services to other segments of the corporation with respect to commodity issues surrounding custom retail transactions.
- Where applicable, coordinate closely with ESM Trading.
- Represent PacifiCorp to new and existing customers.
- Provide support in regulatory proceedings as required.
- Assist in or develop, execute and maintain account sales plans and strategies.
- Assist and administer requests for proposals for various energy related products. Assist in evaluation of bids, negotiation of contracts, and regulatory activity related to the requests for proposals.
- Assist in strategy and position management for various products that have been assigned to Origination.
In addition to the above, the responsibilities of the Mid-Level Power Marketer/Originator include the following:
- Proactively sell and buy energy wholesale products and services from wholesale qualified entities to enhance value or reduce risk exposure in the WECC.
- Restructure existing contractual obligations.
- Coordinate closely with Trading.
- Develop, execute and maintain account sales plans and strategies.
- Apply knowledge and negotiation expertise using WSPP, EEI and ISDA Master Agreements.
- Assist in strategy and position management for various products that have been assigned to Origination (RECs, SO2, GHG Allowances)
- Assure transactions are appropriately fed through the internal evaluation and approval process (structuring/pricing, risk management, accounting, credit, legal, and senior management).
In addition to the above, the responsibilities of the Senior Power Marketer/Originator include the following:
- Restructure existing contractual obligations to reduce risk or enhance net power costs for customers.
- Identify opportunities to represent PacifiCorp to new and existing customers.
- Manage the bi-lateral relationship between PacifiCorp and wholesale entities and resolve contractual issues where bi-lateral negotiation is required.
- Write proposals for potential transactions and coordinate the internal evaluation and approval process for such proposals.
- Negotiate and write wholesale contracts to effectuate transactions.
- Provide internal consulting services to other segments of the corporation with respect to commodity issues surrounding custom retail transactions.
- Negotiate and manage interruptible contracts with large industrial customers.
- Provide testimony and participate in regulatory proceedings as required.
- Apply knowledge and negotiation expertise using WSPP, EEI and ISDA Master Agreements
- Negotiate and manage qualifying facility contracts.
- Administer requests for proposals for various energy related products. Assist in evaluation of bids, negotiation of contracts, and regulatory activity related to the requests for proposals.
- Provide day-to-day project and workload oversight on junior power marketers.
Requirements for this position include the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in performing various energy sales and energy market functions.
- Proven skills and interpersonal skills in sales and negotiations, problem solving, and analysis.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to assertively negotiate transactions and settlements.
In addition to the above, the requirements of the Mid-Level Energy Power Marketer/Originator position include the following:
- A minimum of three years experience in performing various energy sales and energy market functions.
In addition to the above, the requirements for the Senior Energy Power Marketer/Originator include the following:
- A minimum of five years experience in performing various energy sales and energy market functions
Preferences:
- Masters degree
- Knowledge of the WECC wholesale energy and gas market with minimum 3+ years’ experience in structuring and/or analyzing energy transactions with a proven understanding of commodity risk management concepts.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 25, 30, 35% of salary.
