General Purpose
Supports the company by providing legal advice and support on a variety of issues, with a primary emphasis on contract negotiation and commercial support for the energy resource and supply side of the business and a secondary emphasis on managing support of real estate matters.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal support in the drafting, negotiation and administration of all manner of contracts supporting the energy resource and supply side of the business, including master trading agreements (EEI, WSPP, ISDA), power purchase agreements, build-transfer agreements, major equipment purchase agreements, engineering, procurement and construction agreements, and long-term service and maintenance agreements.
- Provide legal support to the company in real estate matters, including eminent domain proceedings and real estate contracting.
- Provide counsel and legal advice on the interpretation of relevant law and regulations, regulatory agency orders and guidance, and corporate policies.
- Develop and present materials to senior management.
- Draft and revise all forms of legal documents including contracts, pleadings, data requests, data request responses, testimony, regulatory documents, reports, and presentations.
- Oversee, select, and direct outside legal counsel, as appropriate in consultation with the General Counsel.
- Deliver high quality work product on a timely basis.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school as well as the successful completion of the Bar exam in one or more states in which the company conducts business, or capable of becoming licensed in such states.
- A minimum of five years related experience in a law firm, government or corporate legal department.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to assess implications of proposed actions/arguments and respond appropriately in private and public forums.
- Knowledge of research and analysis techniques and application of federal, state, and local government laws and regulations.
- Project management and leadership skills, including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver commitments.
Preferences
- Prior experience in energy law is a plus.
- A combination of law firm and corporate experience strongly preferred.

Hiring Range: $ 145,900 – $ 171,600
This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
