Department Overview

The Asset Risk Organization is responsible for identifying, quantifying, and developing mitigation strategies for risks to electric transmission and distribution assets, including system performance/reliability improvement and wildfire risk reduction. The organization supports several objectives to 1) complete accurate, timely reporting on system performance and responses to data requests from regulatory entities; 2) meet all commitments outlined in our Wildfire Mitigation Plans; 3) continue to foster trusted relationships with key stakeholders; and 4) provide ongoing technical support and manage technology development for existing and new applications.

General Purpose

The Asset Risk Program Mgr is responsible for coordinating the development of an integrated risk strategy aligning programmatic efforts covering wildfire risk, reliability, and resilience within a common framework. This position will support development, approval, tracking, and reporting on cross-functional work to achieve strategic objectives within the integrated risk strategy.

General Purpose

Conducts analysis through research, gathering and interpretation of data, development of alternatives and recommendations. Presents analysis and recommendations to management and may implement selected alternative. Analyses include, but are not limited to, valuations, cost/benefit analysis, trending/forecasting, financial analysis, budget analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities of this position include the following:

Prepare accurate physical and financial power and natural gas position, mark-to-market, and other risk reports through strict adherence to established processes and controls.
Perform, validate, and report upon daily updates of market and asset parameters and the resulting impacts to power and natural gas positions.
Identify, investigate, resolve, and document errors, inconsistencies, or abnormalities in data on a daily basis to provide accurate positions to the front office.
Complete special analyses which generally include collection and preparation of data, analyses using spreadsheets and other tools, and presentation and documentation of results.

I know the military can be rather “distinct” as compared to other enterprises. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is growing increasingly alarmed by military action at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant, warning that artillery shelling at the plant site on Aug. 5 underlines a “very real risk of a nuclear disaster.”

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi in a statement on Aug. 6 said new information about the Russian-Ukraine conflict at the site poses a “serious situation.” The information suggests that while there has been no damage to the 6-GW Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant’s six reactors and no radiological release, “there is damage elsewhere on the site,” he said.

Military action at Zaporizhzhya—Europe’s largest nuclear power plant—has ramped up in recent days. Russia occupied the plant, which is located in the southern part of Ukraine, in March—relatively early in its occupation of Ukraine. The nuclear plant continues to be operated by Energoatom, Ukraine’s state-owned entity. All 15 of Ukraine’s nuclear reactors are pressurized water reactors of Russian VVER design and are located at four plant sites.…

IBM Security reported on July 28 that the average cost of recent data breaches was $ 4.24 million per incident, the highest cost ever recorded by the company in 17 years of tracking the metric. Notably, data breaches in the U.S. were by far the costliest, exceeding $ 9 million per incident on average.

The findings were among several insights exposed through a global study of data breaches conducted by the independent Ponemon Institute, a analysis group known for its empirical studies. Researchers reviewed data breaches experienced by 537 organizations between May 2020 and March 2021. The incidents occurred in 17 countries and across various industries.

“We see the number, in general, tick up across the years—some years a little bit higher, some years a little lower—but in general, the trend has been the numbers increase over time,” IBM Cyber Threat Intelligence Expert Charles DeBeck told POWER during an exclusive interview.…
