General Purpose

 

A Utility specialist is a qualified employee who shall perform work mutually agreed to by the Company and Union. Duties typically assigned to the Utility Specialist are Collections/Connects/Disconnects/Removal; Replacement or exchange of single-phase self-contained meters; locates; pole test and treat; Joint Use Coordination; Equipment Operation and others as agreed to by the Company and Union. The Utility Specialist may be required to hold a Commercial Driving license as dictated by the assigned duties and pass minimum qualification requirements as mutually agreed to by the Company and the Union. The Utility Specialist with proper training may be assigned to drive or operate equipment, as follows:

 

1. Pick-up, 6-person capacity;

2. Trucks, one and one-half (1 ½);

3. Line Trucks (Boom Trucks);

4. Trucks hauling poles, material or towing a trailer (except hot line tool trailer);

Under general supervision performs quality control tasks and inspections/audits associated with vegetation management work and provides data to support corrective actions and to promote continuous improvement of the vegetatoin management program. 

Responsibilities

•    Under supervision perform inspections/audits of post-work vegetation management actions (including pre-inspections and tree pruning/removal)  along distribution and transmission system rights-of-way.  
•    Perform inspections/audits to ensure compliance with company’s vegetation management specifications and programs.
•    Communicate to vegetation management staff information on vegetation conditions, clearances and work quality. 
      o    Provide detailed summaries of inspection/audit or survey findings/exceptions (conditions that are inconsistent with Company specifications).
      o    Document findings using the Company’s mobile data management software. 
•    Conduct other related inspections or investigations as assigned (e.g., outage reviews).
•    Assist with reviewing production records, maintenance history, and service interruption (outage) data to support work planning.

U.S. Utility Survey Suggests Industry Mulling Additions of 90 GW of New Nuclear

A Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) survey suggests U.S. utility members expect to add up to 90 GW of new nuclear generation by the 2050s, including more than 300 new small modular reactors (SMRs) in the U.S. over the next 25 years.

The nuclear industry group’s survey, unveiled on July 29, sought to gather input from chief nuclear officers at 19 utility members that already have nuclear as part of their energy generation mix on the role new nuclear could play to reach decarbonization goals.

The results indicate significant demand for new nuclear, the trade group told POWER. Planning for 300 SMRs translates to about 731.3 TWh of power. However, while that figure would effectively double U.S. nuclear energy output today, it may even be a “conservative estimate,” it noted. The 19 NEI member utilities surveyed represent less than half of the total electricity generation in the U.S., and the survey does not include utilities with no nuclear generation, like Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) and PacifiCorp, which have already announced plans to build new nuclear, NEI said.…
