Wildfire Mitigation Program Manager- California

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and formalize strategic objectives for wildfire mitigation. Create and execute detailed wildfire mitigation plan for California.
  • Ensure wildfire mitigation plans meet all regulatory requirements while clearly communicating PacifiCorp’s strategy, progress, and commitment to wildfire risk reduction.

General Purpose

Serves as a lead specialist for the Wildfire Intelligence Center team, monitoring wildfires and other hazards for threats against company assets. Providing rotational on-duty coordination for serious incidents and emergency response, training, and escalating situational intelligence to other specialized groups and executives within PacifiCorp’s service territory. Located in a watch center based in Medford, Oregon. Work is often performed during nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to provide 24/7 coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor situations throughout the service territory utilizing tools to analyze spatial and non-spatial information and report on all fires or hazards having potential to affect, PacifiCorp electric infrastructure and non-electric facilities.
  • Provide training and development for Operational Response Specialists.
  • Provides shift oversight for Operational Response Specialists while reporting to a Wildfire Intelligence Operations Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Uses wildfire experience to guide decisions based on data from Operational Response Specialists to provide actionable response to wildfire threats that may impact electric utility assets.

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) wants to cap its liabilities from damages caused by California wildfires at about $ 18 billion, according to the reorganization plan filed by the bankrupt utility September 9 in federal court in San Francisco. The amount is less than half what creditors, including insurance companies and wildfire victims, say they are owed.

PG&E said it plans to raise a combination of debt and equity to cover its liabilities after the company’s equipment was blamed for starting wildfires in 2017 and 2018 that left more than 100 people dead and caused billions of dollars in property damage. PG&E, the state’s largest utility, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January.

Jason Wells, the company’s chief financial officer, told Bloomberg on Monday, “We currently believe that the caps being outlined in our plan of reorganization are sufficient to satisfy the claims against the company.”…
