Pacific Power is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Station Meter and Relay Technician. This position is a hands-on, in-the-field, training position similar to an apprenticeship. Successful candidates will work with or under the direction of Journeyman Technicians to learn the Meter and Relay Trade.  A period of two (2) years, as defined by labor management agreements, will be allowed to complete all study materials and examinations. The two-year training course is divided into eight quarters with each quarter consisting of bookwork and hands-on tasks, with a test administered at the end of each quarter. A passing score is required on all tests before advancing to the next quarter of training. All hands-on tasks will be performed during normal business hours; however bookwork will be completed outside of work.

Responsibilities

 

A hydro plant mechanic is a journeyman mechanic who repairs, maintains and upgrades all types of mechanical and associated equipment and facilities in a hydro generating station.  

 

Requirements

 

  • Plan and direct maintenance activities for hydro plant outages 
  • Operate equipment 
  • Arc and gas weld power plant components and perform specialized work as a welder 
  • Repair turbines and bearing systems 
  • Add or replace packing as required 
  • Repair and maintain governor and lubrication oil systems 
  • Repair and upgrade cooling water systems   
  • Repair hydro conveyance systems   
  • Perform machining, equipment alignment and precision work 
  • Repair and upgrade turbine and generator auxiliary systems   
  • Perform repair and maintenance of hydro plant facilities including repair and construction of roads, trails, bridges, mixing and pouring of concrete, etc.

General Purpose

Provide direct supervision to the hydro plant maintenance and other assigned personnel. Ensure the efficient, reliable operation of the facility, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

•    Coordinate and supervise all maintenance functions necessary to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the plant to meet scheduled production level. Must be able to take immediate and decisive action to minimize disruption of operations. 
•    Responsible for plant operating performance as related to equipment reliability and performance. Schedule all maintenance activities with plant personnel and outside service providers.
•    Maintain and enforce safety procedures, including all lockout/tagout and safe work procedures. Maintain direct working relationship with environmental, health and safety representatives. 
•    Develop and direct the implementation of maintenance procedures and plans to assure optimum efficiency and effectiveness in outage planning, giving consideration to equipment capabilities, customer demands, operating personnel and equipment maintenance requirements. 
•    Develop and maintain maintenance management program, including routine, outage, and preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
