General Purpose

This position specifically supports the data management, tracking, coordination, and summarization of data compiled and used throughout the Distribution System Planning (DSP) process. Works alongside senior leadership to develop tools and analysis and inform the future of data driven decisions. Develops presentations for senior management and recommends and implements changes to meet company goals. Supports long term grid planning, load forecasting, and compilation of regulatory reporting. Summarizes and explains data and analysis for use in outreach and reporting and participate in discussions with internal/external stakeholders around DSP data needs, reports, and baseline information (data about all of Pacific Power’s distribution feeders, substations, and infrastructure). Contributes to internal training for engineers and technicians in subject area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage increased data requirements for DSP process.
  • Lead, compile and update DSP baseline data (data about all of Pacific Power’s distribution feeders, substations, and infrastructure)
  • Support data management projects, processes, or systems over the life cycle of the project, including project identification, scope development, implementation, and long-term operations and maintenance. 
  • Collaborate with DSP engineering and regulatory teams to analyze complex problems, identify issues, innovate and deliver solutions consistent with schedules established.
  • Provide technical expertise across business in the area of data management and quality to support functions DSP process within T&D Operations organization.
  • Coordinate and develop data, transformation, scripting and tool development, and integrate methods and products within and across company software products.
  • Support definition and evolution of data elements of the evolving DSP process and associated reporting and outreaching processes.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Support data literacy and scripting knowledge development across the team. 
  • Manage and support external DSP website updates
  • Strong customer service focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Analytics, Data Science, Math, or Physics from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a power/utility/energy industry or related professional experience.
  • Some experience in Python (or related language) and associated libraries for machine learning. 
  • Knowledge of SQL query construction and optimization
  • Exceptional technical writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way through visualizations.
  • Ability to review scientific literature and incorporate knowledge into ongoing projects. 
  • Ability to work cross functionally and support multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or project management skills. 
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for data management and data governance. 

Preferences

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.   
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws regulations and electrical codes.
  • Experience working in the utility mitigation sector. 
  • Experience with time series modeling and forecasting.
  • Understanding of the Company’s business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15.00% of salary.
