resigning from job via email

Not long ago, resigning via email was widely seen as a bad form. Unless you wanted to burn bridges and seem extremely unprofessional, you would take the time to voice your decision in person.

Now as remote work is commonplace, that’s no longer the case. People can work in a company for years without ever being in the same room as their supervisor or HR team. Resigning via email isn’t just acceptable. It may be necessary.

Still, a quitting email, coming seemingly out of the blue, can leave a bad impression on an employer. That’s the last thing you’d want.

The post ERCOT Board Members Resign in Wake of Blackouts appeared first on POWER Magazine.

Five board members of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the state’s power grid operator, on Feb. 23 announced they would resign their posts, just days after extreme winter weather left more than 4 million Texas electricity customers without power for several days.

Sally Talberg, chairwoman of ERCOT, is among those resigning. All those leaving the organization apparently live or work outside Texas, and have been criticized by state officials for not being Texas residents. A sixth person, an out-of-state candidate who had applied for a position on the ERCOT board, on Tuesday withdrew that application.

ERCOT manages the flow of electricity for more than 90% of Texas. State officials have criticized the grid operator after last week’s massive blackouts, which left millions of homes without power. State officials said the severe weather has led to more than 30 deaths, including some from hypothermia brought on by the cold.…

The post Reports: Perry Will Resign as Head of DOE appeared first on POWER Magazine.

Several news outlets on Oct. 4 report that Energy Secretary Rick Perry could step down from that role as soon as November.

The Washington Post on Friday said Perry plans to step down by year-end and return to the private sector. The Post cited four unnamed individuals who it said had been briefed on Perry’s plans. The Politico news outlet late Thursday reported that Perry plans to leave the Department of Energy (DOE) next month.

Shaylyn Hynes, a DOE spokeswoman, in an email to media said: “While the Beltway media has breathlessly reported on rumors of Secretary Perry’s departure for months, he is still the Secretary of Energy and a proud member of President Trump’s Cabinet. One day the media will be right. Today is not that day.”

Should Perry resign, he would be the latest of about a dozen Cabinet members to leave their positions during the Trump administration.…
