critical thinking skills

It’s no secret that employers want adaptable people, who can solve problems, and contribute to the organization’s success. The difference between an employee who can do these things and one who can’t comes down to one simple thing: they have strong critical thinking skills.

So of course you’d want to tout these on your resume and all over your job application materials too. There’s one problem, though. Critical skills aren’t always easy to put on paper. But there are a few ‘workarounds’ this post will show you!

What Are Critical Thinking Skills?

Critical thinking skills stand for your ability to rationally process information, find connections between ideas, reflect, and draw conclusions. You use critical thinking skills in the workplace to solve problems, collaborate with others, resolve conflicts, and complete many other everyday tasks.

To give you a better idea, here are several critical thinking skills examples:

  • Analysis of information for relevancy and accuracy. Strong fact-checking abilities.
  • Critical self-reflection and introspection to eliminate bias or flawed assumptions.

severance pay

So you’ve been laid off. That sucks, but a little less if your employer offers you a severance package. Find out how much severance pay you can get after termination and what the requirements are for qualifying (with bonus negotiation tips!).

What is Severance Pay?

Severance pay is discretionary monetary compensation provided by the employer to a terminated employee. The exact sum depends on the employment contract type, tenure, position, and other contractual terms.

Legally, employers aren’t obliged to offer severance pay when conducting layoffs unless there’s a bargaining agreement between an employer and a union forcing them to do so. Only 25% of US companies offer severance pay to all employees, according to a 2023 benchmark study.

To determine if you’re entitled to a severance package, check your employment contract or reach the HR department.

Is Severance Pay Taxable?

Yes, severance pay is taxable in the US. It will be included in your W-2, and appropriate taxes will be withheld by your employer.…

downloadable ATS resume template pro profile

When it comes to resume design, many applicants make one avoidable mistake: They go for a colorful, graphical resume template with a photo. These work like a charm when they land immediately in front of the recruiter, but they undermine their odds of getting past an applicant tracking system.

If you know the company uses software to process applicants, go for a toned-down ATS-friendly resume template. Although plainer in sight, this template can be effectively scanned by all popular systems for keywords and career details. Your submission won’t be filtered out due to poor design.

This template meets all the ATS formatting requirements: optimal font size and type, standardized syntax, a one-column layout, and no photo. What’s left for you is to list your work experience using bullet points, include relevant keywords from the job description, add your educational credentials, and check for spelling issues!

personal values for job interview

One of the most fundamental things that shape our character are personal values.

Personal values are your deep-held convictions about things you perceive as important, meaningful, and desirable in life. Your personal values and beliefs shape your mindset, define your attitudes, and guide your behaviors.

Honest people are transparent about their strengths and weaknesses. But they also expect others to speak candidly and be open. Autonomy lovers thrive in remote roles requiring concentration, while teamwork enthusiasts thrive in fast-paced environments.

Generally, 8 in 10 workers say alignment between personal and corporate values is important, to the point where half would likely quit if it’s missing. That’s why hiring managers are increasingly screening candidates using culture-fit interview questions. They want to find people with similar values who will fit into the existing environment and thrive in the long-term!

What Personal Values Do Employers Look For?

Employers now prioritize strong soft skills over hands-on experience. A recent survey found a 22% decrease in “previous experience” mentions in job listings for banking, professional, and financial services over the last month.…

Can you provide proof of employment? That’s a valid request you may get from a new landlord, your bank advisor, or even a new employer.

If you’re wondering what counts as proof of employment and how to get an employment verification letter, read on!

What is Proof of Employment?

A proof of employment is evidence that verifies your current or past employment by a company. Examples of proof of employment documents include pay stubs, tax documents (e.g., a W-2 form), employment contracts, or proof of employment letter printed on the company’s letterhead and signed by the hiring manager.

You may be asked to provide proof of employment whenever you sign a new apartment lease, secure a loan, apply for government benefits (like unemployment benefits), or purchase new insurance. In each case, the requesting party uses the provided documents to verify your current status and assess your employment history.
